So far January has felt very, well, January. Cold, dark and dry – at least for me as I decided to take on Dry January and shy away from alcohol for the month. Under these circumstances I can think of no better pastime than hibernating away at home and rewatching everyone’s favourite Friends which the good people of Netflix brought us last month.
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve watched the show but I really never tire of it. I’ve always enjoyed the early seasons and seeing the gang so young, fresh faced and wonderfully nineties. This time round I’ve found myself particularly drawn to Season One, realising that I too am around the same age and in the same hazy state of adult life, as the six Friends.
So I started to take note of my favourite quotes which perfectly sum up the highs and lows of work, love and general 20-something life. Because sitting here and writing up Friends quotes is a sensible use of my time, right? To quote Phoebe, who need’s a ‘pla’ anyway! Enjoy and do let me know your favourite Friends quote or season!
Work:
Isn‘t this exciting! I earned this! I wiped tables for it, I steamed milk for it, and it was totally…not worth it. Who’s FICA? Why’s he getting all my money? (Rachel)
I don’t know what I want to do. I just know I’m not going to figure it out working there (Chandler)
Love:
Of course it was a line! (Joey)
No. But it only has to happen once. Look, you and I both know we are perfect for each other (Ross)
Adulting:
Everyone I know is either getting married or getting pregnant or promoted and I’m getting coffee. And it’s not even for me! (Rachel)
Welcome to the real world. It sucks! You’re gonna love it (Monica)
Tap dance instructor: You’re getting it all wrong
…But at least I’m doing it! (Monica)
